Information Literacy Instruction guides students in processes of research and investigation of topics using a wide range of sources. When an Information Literacy class is requested, a demonstration will be provided on how to access databases, ebooks and indices. Best practices in how to locate full-text, scholarly nd peer reviewed journal articles will also be discussed. LibGuides are available for a variety of subject areas.
A literature search AKA literature review surveys books, scholarly articles and other resources. This will result in the compilation of a list of references on a specific topic. This list may also include journal articles or chapters of books. References are obtained by searching the Lyman Beecher Brooks Library Catalog and our scholarly electronic databases.
The Virginia Beach Higher Education Center offers a consultation service to students, faculty and staff involved in research. Researchers are guided to resources and are able to retrieve viable, authoritative information. Research assistance is available to support and encourage students to identify and locate information using best practices and the most current resources, (i.e. periodicals, journal articles, books and ebooks)
If the Lyman Beecher Brooks library does not own the book or articles you are looking for, you may request an interlibrary loan from another library. Please note that Interlibrary loan requires approximately 7 to 14 days for delivery.
First time users must contact the InterLibrary Loan Supervisor at Interlibraryloan@nsu.edu or by telephone at (757) 823-2426 to request the creation of a new user account.
