This guide will provide resources and information to enable communities to address the needs of students and staff experiencing hardships

Chesapeake Shelters



CAST (Chesapeake Area Shelter Team) -- a community of churches providing overnight winter shelter for the homeless.  Trudy Rauch at 757-547-2319, 757-547-4662, or 757-522-7050.

Children's Crisis Center of Hampton Roads, 118 Great Bridge Blvd, Chesapeake, VA 23320, 757-549-3414 -- provides emergency shelter, crisis assistance and supportive services for underprivileged and at-risk families with mental and behavioral health disabilities.

Hadassah House (Maternity Home) 449 Centerville Turnpike, Chesapeake, VA 23320.  Phone:757-410-4327.  Provides shelter to pregnant women ages 14 to 18 that are still in high school. Shelter is extended one month after the woman gives birth.

Laura and John's House -- provides assistance to women with children less than 5 years of age. 757-485-0833.

Our House Families -- provides housing, support services and emergency shelter for homeless families. 757-754-3834 or 757-754-5407.

Portsmouth Volunteers for the Homeless  (PVH) -- working with over forty-nine houses of faith in Portsmouth, Chesapeake, Suffolk and students from Virginia Wesleyan College provide nightly shelter for persons from mid November through the first week of May each year.  757-399-0200.

The Winter Shelter -- provides emergency services to more than 50 homeless adults each night between the hours of 9:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m.  This is a partnership between local churches and public agencies, orchestrated by Volunteers of America, 757-437-4911.
