How to Access Databases from Off-Campus

This guide will show you how to access databases and other library resources when you are not on campus.

Logging into OpenAthens

""

Logging into Library Databases:

  • Use database links directly from the library's A-Z Database List or a Research Guide.
  • Make sure that you are using a compatible browser: Chrome, Edge, Firefox, or Safari.
  • When logging into OpenAthens, use only the username portion of your email address (everything to the left of the @ symbol).
Example: for a user with the email address l.b.brooks1938@spartans.nsu.edu, the username would be l.b.brooks1938.
  • This will provide you with access to all of our databases as long as your browser is open. In other words, once you have logged in, you can switch from one database to another without having to log into OpenAthens again.

"Cookies" must be enabled on all browsers.

Troubleshooting

Having Problems?

  • Try a different browser and make sure your browser is up-to-date.
  • Clear your browser cache, cookies, and history:
  • Double check for any pop-up blockers or firewalls that might be interfering with access.
  • Try restarting your computer.
  • If your account becomes locked due to too many failed login attempts, you will need to contact the Office of Information Technology to reset your account:
